Crimea, Ukraine: On October 27, 2012 “Fiolent” Stadium in Simferopol, Ukraine gathered 36 young people from Mykolaiv, Kherson oblasts and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to participate in inter-regional football tournament. The tournament aimed to promote “Fair Play” methodology and foster peer-to-peer exchange among young people. The event was held in the framework of “Young Football Volunteers: Sport and Volunteering for MDG” (YFV) project, supported by UN Volunteers Programme, UN Office on Sport for Development and Peace, UN Development Programme, Ukraine’s Football Federation, State Service for Youth and Sports (SSYS) and German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). Young Football Volunteers project (YFV) held their first Training of Trainers. The training was organized in cooperation with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) and State Service on Youth and Sports. Sixteen teachers of physical education and youth football coaches from rural areas of AR Crimea, Kherson and Mykolayiv oblasts were trained on Youth Development through Football methodology (YDF) or “Fair Play”. 24-25 October 2011 – The 2011 UNV retreat was held in Pusha Voditza, a beautiful, quiet place outlying Kyiv. Twelve volunteers representing five countries—Ukraine, Czech Republic, Finland, Italy and Japan—met to exchange ideas, share experiences, and learn about different cultures.
The group then learned about various support and funding opportunities available to UNVs, such as the microgrant program that provides volunteers with funding to help complete community-based projects. In addition, volunteers discussed and proposed ideas about ways to make the UNV experience even better.
