Kites depicting ‘Nini’, one of the five Beijing Olympic Games mascots, decorated the sky of Haidian Park in Beijing, where kite flying activity with the theme of protecting Beijing swifts was held on 19 April. Many Chinese and international volunteers who have registered to be Beijing swift protectors participated in the activity with their families. Read

Kyiv, Ukraine: With the United Nations Volunteers programme’s support over the last 3 years through the “Volunteers for Participatory Community-Based Development in Chernobyl” project, UNV volunteers have worked with Chernobyl Recovery and Development Programme staff to empower local communities. International Volunteers Help Ukrainian Rural Communities

Kyiv: The first International Volunteer Promotion Campaign was held from August 27 to September 10, 2007, in Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Chernihiv oblasts. During the two week campaign, volunteers from Poland, Serbia, France, Germany, Denmark, Turkey and Japan joined Ukrainian peers to work on solving actual problems of Ukrainian rural communities. The initiative was sponsored by the UN Volunteers Programme and the Ukrainian Association for Youth Cooperation Alternative-V, with additional support from United Nations Development Programme projects “Human Security for Ukrainian Youth” and Chornobyl Recovery and Development Programme (CRDP). UNV China translates environmental guide for Live Earth

Beijing, China: The United Nations Volunteers Programme (UNV) in China has translated the guide "Climate Crisis Solutions" into Chinese as a practical tool to help address environmental challenges in China. The translation is part of UNV's contribution to the Live Earth event, a series of concerts worldwide on 7 July to raise awareness about the climate crisis and mobilise millions of people. Read
