About UNDP in Ukraine

UN Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN's global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners.

In Ukraine, four development focus areas define the structure of UNDP's assistance activities. These include democratic governance; prosperity, poverty reduction and MDGs; local development and human security; and energy and environment. In each of these thematic areas, UNDP tries to ensure balance between policy and advocacy work, capacity building activities and pilot projects.UNDP established its presence in Ukraine in 1993.

“Include the Excluded”- New UNDP report calls for greater integration of people living with and affected by HIV

Moscow - Kyiv, 10 December: Discrimination and the social exclusion of people living with HIV are undermining efforts to respond to AIDS, according to a new report "Living with HIV in Eastern Europe and CIS: The human cost of social exclusion", which is being released today by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in conjunction with both World AIDS Day and the 60th Anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Implementation of the state policy of Ukraine concerning gender in 2008 has been reviewed

Kyiv, 25 December 2008. Ministry of Ukraine for Family, Youth and Sports together with the Committee of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Human Rights, National Minorities and International Relations and Equal Opportunities and Women's Rights in Ukraine Programme (a UNDP-led project co-financed by the European Union, SIDA and UNDP), Programme of assistance to Parliament of Ukraine have conducted the interdepartmental coordinating conference on the implementation of the Law of Ukraine «On Ensuring Equal Rights and Opportunities for Men and Women» and on results of implementing in 2008 the State Programme of Ensuring Gender Equality in Ukrainian Society for 2006-2010.

Decision-makers from over 20 Ukrainian cities share experience in community-based local development

Guta, Ivano-Frankivsk Region, 11-12 December: Over 60 representatives of city councils, state authorities, academia and donor agencies have gathered at the 2008 Annual Meeting of the National Forum of Partner Municipalities, which operates within a UNDP-led Municipal Governance and Sustainable Development Programme.
